Camera calibration

Camera calibration field Camera calibration, i.e. calculation of camera internal orientation is essential to produce topographic mapping quality orthophotos, elevation models and contours of aerial images. Frequent calibration is especially required for unstable small format camera systems, such as compact cameras carried by UAVs.

Camera calibration software contains the complete processing chain to independently calibrate cameras, without depending on third party calibration laboratories:

  • Design and optimize the calibration field
  • Instructions to take the calibration images
  • Detect and measure calibration targets automatically
  • Calculate internal orientation
  • Analyze results
  • Edit, correct, recalculate
  • Export calibration report

Software calculates:
  • Focal length
  • Principal point x and y
  • Affinity
  • Radial distortion k1, k2, k3
  • Tangential distortion t1, t2
  • Un-orthogonality

Detection and measurement of the targets on the images is automatic, thus the entire calculation process can be carried out in minutes. Camera internal orientation is calculated in pixels for direct input to EnsoMOSAIC, and exported in metric system and as distortion table.
